Research Description:

In this internship, the student will conduct research to locate parties which have expertise in authenticating and protecting antiquities within Australia and internationally, as part of an Australian Research Council funded project on fake papyrus manuscripts (see http://www.forgingantiquity.com). After initial orientation, the student will conduct research to locate such individuals, teams, or organisation, which may include government departments, NGOs, academic teams, and antiquities dealers. The student will curate a list of such parties to form the basis for the development of the framework for intervening in government policy on the antiquities trade, and material for a future grant application. As well as these outcomes, the student will also be asked to write a blog post about their internship at the project blog (https://markersofauthenticity.com). The internship will provide an introduction to conducting guided independent research within a research team with larger goals to which the student's work will contribute, and will be of special interest to students with an interest in cultural heritage, the authentication of artefacts, and the ethics of the study of the ancient world.
